To help promote the power of giving and FCCLA, FACS classes will be promoting a food drive. As a class we learned about national charities and the importance of giving. For this project students have been challenged to a create persuasive video to promote a local charity. Through their videos students will advocate for the charity they would like to provide the non-perishable items that will be collected from the school on December 9th. Each class will review the videos and select the top three, with the final vote selecting the winning charity.
Students are encouraged to use power point or adobe express to create their videos. MAD learn came to my classroom to teach my students about their amazing program. See here link to learn about our time with them.
I invited MAD learn to help my students learn about creating apps. The position for marketing was responsible for creating a website or app for their restaurant, a commercial, a logo, and material for advertising. This is the link to MAD Learn to learn more about the program. My students got really excited when they could see their app go live.
As the project progress, each team was told they need to create a signature dish from their menu. This dish would be made for the class. Students learned about presentation and proportions. They only had a 2 oz cup that could be used to serve for each student. They were also given a list of ingredients they could use. The students loved this activity. We are on a block schedule and there was a different team creating their specialty over three class periods. I was in search for a project-based learning project that would promote entrepreneurship and creativity in cooking and came across the Restaurant Design Challenge by Jenny Ittner of Chattahoochee Elementary. I adapted the lesson to be in line for my middle school students. I added different levels of technology that students would need to incorporate in addition to what Ms. Ittner had included. Students worked in groups to create a restaurant. Each member of the group took on a job title and were responsible for completing their section of the project. Some of the technologies incorporate were Word, Power Point, Canva, Adobe Express-Slide Show and MAD Learn to complete the project. You will need to plan time as it took about 4 weeks to complete. Visit this link to see the original lesson as seen on NPR. You will be able to see supporting documents and lesson plan. A great way to get students to eat healthy. This salad is very simple to make. Students used their new knife cutting skills to chop and dice up a yummy and popular salad. A very easy recipe to get your students excited about what is coming in the class. I used this activity to teach my students how to properly use a microwave. Fun motivator mini-lab. I used this lab to get students to finish their assignment quickly. Once done they were allowed to make their cookies. Hi everyone! I am excited about getting started with sharing fun and easy "how-to" videos and recipes,
Please note: I do not take credit for any of the recipes provided. I am only sharing what we have done in class. |
